Yoga and Acceptance

Have you ever tried yoga? With an on and off relationship with yoga over the years, I am no expert, but I have experienced a blissful state of grounded calmness that comes with the practice. Plus, it feels great to come out of class feeling nicely stretched out and maybe a bit taller. As we breathe deeply in class, yoga improves our lung capacity, promotes relaxation, and regulates moods. My teachers almost always look content and glowing. On top of all those benefits, yoga is said to reverse heart disease.

As we bend into some unfamiliar and uncomfortable poses, yoga reminds us to accept where we are at in our bodies. Like in life, pushing ourselves too far past our limits could lead us to injury, so it is best to practice acceptance and not go too far past comfort zones.

It’s nice to see that musician and reportedly veggie India Arie is finding some peace through yoga.
